Can I write a documentation about "How I create a subtitle?"

Hello admin, I just saw the documentation on “How to generate subtitles with Whisper”. I want to share how I create subtitles. The way I do it is very simple. I just download the movie subtitles that have English subtitles, after that I just filter (grep) the dialog text only and translate it using the deepl-cli tool. I have created some subtitles with Indonesian language. So, after translating them, I just need to adjust the translation from deepl to my language so that it is not too standardized.

I want to create documentation like https://www.avsubtitles.com/help_whisper_Lionfacial.php. Is it possible?

Of course you can, I think a lot of people would be grateful! :)

You can't edit it on the site yet unfortunately.
So you can create a PDF or whatever, and provide a download link (or PM me I'll give you my email address).
Then i'll create the HTML for the site.

Thanks :)

Hi Admin, I have finished to write the documentation. But I'm getting into trouble. Did you receive a PM from me?

Just to let you know the english subtitles for those aren't always reliable and are often very bad. This is why I use the ones subtitled in Chinese for my subs and not the english one, the chinese sub got the context better.

P.S: don't trust Deeppl 100%, in my case now I use a mix of Deepl / Google translate and ChatGPT (it work very well as long as you gave it the right context). It takes me minimum a week to create a JAV sub but for me it's the best way (better than voice to text for sure).

I use Whisper too, and I combined with Deepl. I think Deepl knows context better than google translate, based on my experience. And for my language, I adjusted it again so that it wasn't too stiff. I think people should know the context of the movie title :)

I agree with both of you.
Obviously, Chinese language construction is closer to Japanese. And the big problem is that online translator make guesses on some Japanese part to got the english translation. Those "guesses" become more and more awkward when translating english to another language.

By the way, for beginners reading this, keep in mind that online translators never translate directly Japanese to your language. Online translators do Japanese => English => Your language.

About context, translating a whole text is more accurate than translating subtitles line per line. So rather than translating with subtitle-translator or things like that, it's more effective to translate a whole subtitles file in one go by removing all the index and timestamps before:

156
00:12:58,000 --> 00:12:59,256

But of course, it depends on movies...
