Jean is an attractive and flirtatious man who, during a Parisian party, falls in love with the beautiful Anne (a sublime Mary Mendum), who turns out to be the "property" of his friend, the cold and mature Claire. Jean quickly discovers that the two women maintain a relationship of absolute sadomasochistic submission, and takes advantage of the opportunity to participate in the dynamic of humiliation that Claire inflicts on Anne in the most creative and morbid ways.
Even in its explicit version (there is a softcore cut), The Image should not be considered a typical pornographic film. While it is certainly peppered with beautiful oral sex scenes, there is not a single penetration scene in the entire film, and, of course, there are no fluid exchanges typical of that genre. We could therefore consider "The Image" to be an erotic film with a high dose of sex, but above all, it is an elegant, stylish, and very well-crafted product that delivers the purest morbidity. Director Radley Metzger and star Mary Mendum are known to have been a couple during filming.
