REQUESTS FOR SUBTITLES
REQUESTS FOR SUBTITLES
2023-01-14 03:25:11
Instead of scattering these requests all over the forum, how about we just put them all in one thread?
Oh yeah, please replace the 'RE:' line (above) with the movie title or code for quick reference. That way we don't have to read through the entire thread.
And please, no begging, no nagging, and please don't offer us money. Not that it's insulting. It's the amount you offer that's insulting. You really couldn't afford us. (Smirk)

Haha, the part about money is good :)
The layout of this forum is really bad, so I'm working on the new forum since a few days now. I don't know when it will be complete, but maybe I'll publish the first part very soon and complete it later.
If I can, I'd like to make it online the next week.
There will be 5 sub-forums:
- Site news (bugs & features)
- Help about subtitles
- Requests
- General discussion
- Contributors' place
This last sub-forum will be reserved for uploaders.
Can't wait

Although I am guessing that existing threads will become either redundant or non-existent.

At first, I'll copy everything in the "General" section, then I'll move the most important ones in the right categories.
For instance, your recent message you wrote in order to help people will be moved to the Help section.

A help or mentoring area would be great I think.
To be honest, I am almost entirely self-taught. My earliest ones I actually did in notepad, talk about a major pain in the ass. Then going through a half dozen "tools", some of which were damned near useless until I discovered Subtitle Edit. Then various ways to compile subtitles with the videos themselves until I started doing MKV.
I wish I had discovered this long before I did. And I am sure that a lot of us would be glad to pass along what we have learned, in the hopes that others will start doing this as well.
Notepad does have its uses

For the initial editing, to save time, I still use notepad to correct capitalization, punctuation, grammar, replace/fix idioms and such. It is a lot faster than SE for all of these minor yet mass corrections.
Then, I use subtitle edit for the tedious line-by-line, lots of pronoun corrections, sync of course, and filling in the blanks.
Too bad they don't publish the scripts online, huh? (Yeah. They DO use scripts)

Actually, scripts would not be of much help as you think.
Scripts are commonly available, However, those are typically "Screenplays". Those are the scripts that the cast is given when a pitch is made to them, and that they will commonly sit around a table and read through. The actors and director will then hash through that, and from that will come the shooting script.
And there are sites you can get them, like IMSDb.
https://imsdb.com/
However, that can be more or less useful, as many directors and actors are known for improvisation and going off-script. Say like Robin Williams, who often deviated highly from his scripts, or Ryan Reynolds. Where as some directors were known to want the shoot to be with almost no deviations at all from the script, like George Lucas.
So even the script will often be very different than the final movie.
For porn, a script is often more of a guideline, with the director and cast changing it as they go along. For some it was never written down and only existed in the director's head. A lot of porn movies were more akin to a 60 to 90 minute improv, with each actor and the director going through them a scene at a time.
And in the "Golden Age", this was obvious many times. There were some really great ones like Harry Reams and Kay Parker, who actually were professional actors before going into porn and their performances show it. Others like Tracy Lords were always wooden, and only got by on looks as they could not act their way out of a wet paper bag.
Probably the only way scripts might exist for what we transcribe is the early golden age scripts from say Radley Metzger, who actually started his career in mainstream film. In the early days, most porn cast and crew came from "mainstream Hollywood".
Hell, some even went back and forth. Wes Craven for years moved between porn and mainstream, before finally finding success in Hollywood. He has 3 on-screen appearances and one director credit in IAFD, But he was uncredited in many others from the "New York scene" as an editor, assistant director, second unit director, and more. Including Deep Throat (where it is believed he was a second unit director and editor).
His breakout "The Last House on the Left" was intended to be a porn movie. And the legend is that Harry Reams read the script and urged him to forget porn and make it a mainstream horror film. And many that appeared in it worked in porn, or on the edges of it.
So for scripts for porn, forget it. And even if some were found, they would not be as much help as many think.

Ah, I'm sorry. I keep forgetting that I'm on a general porn website. My bad. I specialize in JAV, and I keep forgetting that not everyone on this site does.
Most Jav is acted out according to a script, though there are deviations, of course. "Oh God! Oh Yes! It's so big!" doesn't really require Cue cards. But the rest of JAV is very well done, spoken, covered, and acted out very nicely. Western porn is very simple. Boy meets girl. "Hey" "Hi." "So, wanna fuck?" "Eh, why not?"
Jav has stories, plot, conflict, comedy, danger, characters you care about, and really believable sex (Most of the time. 35 year old cherry boys stretch my imagination)
For Jav, I believe that a copy of a script (Digital) would help immensely when it comes to filling in the blanks.

Guys, that's so interesting to read your messages! I'm so amazed to read that kind of stories about Wes Craven and so on...!
You both really know your topics. Please keep sharing that kind of anecdotes!!
However, RK, I think you're a bit hard about western porn. Okay, I agree, nothing really great appeared recently, but see Jonathan Morgan's stuff: Haunted Nights, Space Nuts, ... they are really good. Some of them have more story than sex :)
It's the same about some Wicked Pictures, Adam & Even productions if you are into Romance/comedies. I really had great time watching Operation Desert Stormy or Scooby Doo a XXX parody.
As for me, I think I'm quite eclectic. I really appreciate Western and JAV as long as they have good plot (but I agree, today, it's more easy to find nice story in JAV than in Western Porn)

Well, Western porn has gone through several iterations over the decades.
In the "Golden Age" (generally from Deep Throat to around 1990 when video replaced film), some were highly professional, some were just the thinnest of plots to connect the sex. And many did use scripts and were highly professional.
Quite often because most of those involved on the production end were professionals. And shooting on film cost money for both the film as well as the processing and distribution. But that started to go out the window in the mid-1980's when videotape took over. Tape was cheap and reusable, and copies only cost a handful of VCRs.
Now it largely stayed there until the mid-late 1990s, when the Internet took over. At that point, the stories largely went to hell. Short 15 minutes clips, more akin to the old 8mm loops became the norm. Often with almost no crew, sometimes the crew-director-producer were all a single person.
Thankfully, in Japan it is closer to how the US industry was 25-35 years ago. With cast that can actually act, real stories, and actual production values. This can be seen in that in Japan, most porn companies actually have studios and a crew of a dozen or more as well as scripts. Where as that was rarely common in the US even in the "Golden Age", as quite often homes of the producer or director were used for sets, as well as anywhere they rented at the time.
That is also why I tend to stick to JAV. There and Europe are really the only places where you find good production value and acting. Where story is still of critical importance, and it is not just a bare excuse to use to get to the sex.
And yes, I am a bit of a "Porn Historian". I even use that name in some places, as I find it fascinating the differences over the decades in how they were made, and the quality.
